Change your Password on DVRs and NVRs

Take your time, and choose a password that no one will easily guess. Your birthday or consecutive numbers are not good options. We highly recommend that you use very complex passwords that many types of characters, such as: uppercase, lowercase, numbers. And if it is possible, special characters too: !, @, #, $.

The newest versions of firmware will generate a popup message asking you to change the password when logging into a DVR or NVR with a default password. If you are using the new firmware and you do see this popup message, Press OK, and skip to step #3 in the instructions below.

To change the password of a DVR/NVR:
1.    Log into the DVR/NVR using the current administrator password.
2.    Go to Main Menu, and then go to System Configuration.
3.    From the sub-menus on the left click User. This will display all the user accounts currently enrolled in the DVR/NVR.
4.    Choose the desired user and click the Edit icon, which looks like a Pencil.
5.    Enter the current password in the Old Password field, then place a checkmark in the Change Password check box.
6.    Enter the New Password. Next to the Password field an assessment bar will indicate the password strength. You should create a strong password.
7.    After entering the new password, confirm the password by re-entering it in the confirm field.
8.    Please make sure not to alter the User’s MAC address or User’s IP address fields. These settings will restrict access to the unit.
9.    Click OK.
