Face Detection versus Face Recognition
They might seem the same, but they are actually very different.
Facial Detection captures the image of a person walking through a camera and then stores the faces in a searchable database. This is considered as facial detection or face detection. Mainly used for access control to open doors, like fingerprint access control.
Facial Recognition is a more complex application system, that basically captures the image of a person and then compares it with an existing database. Mainly used in airports, big supermarkets, casinos, stadiums or big events, to detect any person of interest.
